Man accused of trying to sell baby on Craigslist wanted in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The man arrested last week in Tennessee after he and a woman allegedly tried to sell their 5-month-old infant online also faces charges in New Hanover County.
John David Cain, 26, and Deanna Lynn Greer, 37, were charged with aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect or endangerment after they posted an ad on Craigslist and offered to sell the baby for $3,000, ABC affiliate WATE in Knoxville reported Saturday, citing the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
The two were caught in a sting operation that ended on Friday when they exchanged the baby with state agents for the cash.
New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer says Cain faces three charges in Wilmington.
Brewer confirms Cain allegedly used a construction company’s credit card. He faces an embezzlement charge for that, as well as attempted breaking and entering and damage to real property charges relating to an alleged break-in at Lovitt Motor Company in Wilmington.
The alleged break-in happened in August.
