Man arrested after armed robbery at hotel
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – Wilmington Police say a man is behind bars without bond after he robbed a woman in her hotel room, stole a car, and then crashed it.
Officers said just before 6 p.m. on Friday Dominic Brookins approached a 26-year-old woman at the Red Roof Inn on Market Street.
They say she had just finished walking her dog when Bookins pushed his way into her room and demanded money.
According to investigators, when the woman told Bookins she did not have any money, the 33-year-old emptied her purse and took a bottle of medication.
After he left the room officers said he ran into the parking lot and stole silver Honda Civic before pointing his gun at the man trying to get in it.
Investigators say Bookins then crashed the car at the entrance of the hotel. That’s where they were able to arrest him.
Bookins is charged with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault by pointing a gun, possession of a firearm by a felon, larceny, and fugitive warrant.
