Man arrested after chase through swamp

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A spokesman with the US Marshals Service says a man is facing charges after a chase through a swampy area near his home.

Russ Fields says members of the Eastern North Carolina Fugitive Task Force were trying to serve Christian Hayes, 29, an arrest warrant around 10 a.m. in Maple Hill, when Hayes jumped out of a window of his house and tried to run away from officers. Fields says several officers chased Hayes through a swampy area before catching him. He says when they searched his home, they founded a loaded weapon.

Hayes is facing several probation violation charges. Deputies with the Pender County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the arrest.
