Man arrested after reports of hit and run in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — According to WPD, just before 11:00 p.m. last night police arrested Joseph Graham Merritt for DWI and Hit and Run for an accident in the 500 block of Wooster St.

WPD said there were several calls made reporting a young male driver in a white Ford Taurus. Police were unable to locate the vehicle each time. Police say the suspect caused a collision on Wooster St. and fled the scene.

The driver at that scene was able to provide police with information that helped to locate the vehicle. WPD said patrol units as well as UNCW police helped to search for the car. The suspect was found in the area around Racine Dr.
