Man arrested after social media warning

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Over the weekend, women in Wilmington began sharing a social media post claiming a man was harassing women in the Porters Neck area. Tonight, that man ended up behind bars.

A spokesman for the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said that man is 36-year-old Jonathan Duane Sarner.

Multiple women commented on the WWAY Facebook page Monday saying Sarner harassed them in the Porters Neck Walmart parking lot and even outside of their homes.

One woman tells WWAY Sarner approached her in a Big Lots parking lot last week, grabbing her by the hand asking her if she thought “he looked like a rapist.”

Lt. Jerry Brewer with the Sheriff’s Office said Sarner was charged with simple assault and bonded out Monday night on a $1,000 bond.
