Man arrested after Wrightsville Beach hit-and-run

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Wrightsville Beach Police said a man is facing charges after he hit a woman walking in a crosswalk and took off Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened just after 3:30 p.m. on Waynick Boulevard near the Carolina Yacht Club. That’s where Chief Dan House said a woman in her 70s was walking when Joseph Frank Klus, 34, hit her with his silver truck and kept driving.

After getting information on the truck and damage caused by the crash, Chief House said police were able to find and arrest Klus a few hours later.

Klus is charged with felony hit and run causing serious injury, and he was booked in the New Hanover County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond.

There’s no word on the victim’s condition, but House said Klus could face more charges.
