Man arrested and charged with attempted abduction in New Hanover County

NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest following an investigation into a reported abduction near Horn Road and Carolina Beach Road.

Eric Britton Harrelson is charged with second-degree kidnapping and misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.

Witnesses reported seeing a young woman being forcibly restrained inside a dark-colored SUV, hearing her yell for help and seeing her try to get away.

Investigators later identified the woman and the suspect and found the woman safe after she was able to get away.

Harrelson is being held at the New Hanover County Detention Facility without bond.

The sheriff’s office says school resource officers also determined no New Hanover County Schools students were involved.

The investigation remains ongoing.
