Man charged after domestic assault ends with deputy assault

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A man is facing charges after deputies said he assaulted a woman, forced her into a vehicle and refused to stop for a deputy.

According to warrants, Dennis Edward Baxley, 51, is facing charges including assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, felonious restraint and resisting public officer. Warrants said Baxley was a assaulting a woman and trying to take her in a truck from Brunswick to New Hanover County when deputies tried to stop him. Warrants said Baxley refused to stop, which resulted in a deputy getting dragged a short distance with Baxley’s truck. A sheriff’s office spokeswoman said the deputy wasn’t hurt.

Baxley was arrested yesterday after the incident. There’s no word on the injuries the woman sustained.
