Man charged after early-morning ShotSpotter alert

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Investigators with the Wilmington Police Department have charged a man in an early-morning shooting incident.

Police said just before 5 a.m., a ShotSpotter alert went off in the 1200-block of Dock Street. Police said when they were headed to the area, they saw Miller Eugene Ross, 28, in the 1200-block of Ann Street. Officers said when they tried to approach him, he continued to walk and tried to throw his handgun away from himself.

Ross is now facing charges including possession of a firearm by a felon. No injuries were reported.
