Man charged after traffic stop turns into chase
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Investigators at the Wilmington Police Department have charged a man after they realized the car he was driving was reported stolen.
Police say just before 5 p.m. Sunday, officers noticed a vehicle had a broken window at the intersection of 6th and Red Cross streets. When they ran the registration, officers were notified the car was stolen out of Pender County. When officers tried to initiate a traffic stop, they went on a brief pursuit before the driver got out of the car and ran from the scene around the 300 block of Parsley Street. The driver, Michael Tyrone Loyde, was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, felony flee to elude arrest and other charges. Loyde was also facing charges on assault on a female and common law robbery in an unrelated incident.
Loyde was booked in jail under a $50,000 bond.
