Man charged with assaulting EMS worker

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is in jail charged with assaulting an EMS worker who was trying to help his girlfriend.

Wilmington Police say they responded to a medical call around 2 a.m. Saturday at 1520 E. Plaza Drive. They say EMS also responded to help a woman, whose boyfriend, Miguel Dukes, was performing CPR on her when police arrived. Investigators say while EMS worked, Dukes became aggressive and combative as they questioned him. Eventually officers took him into custody, WPD spokeswoman Linda Rawley said.

During a search, police found a .38 revolver in a backpack.

Dukes is in jail under $10,000 bond charged with assault on emergency personnel, carrying a concealed weapon and resist/delay/obstruct public officer.

Rawley said his girlfriend was taken to the hospital in critical condition and not breathing on her own. Rawlet did not have information about the woman’s condition.
