Man convicted of murder in Columbus Co. could be released from prison
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The man who has spent 25 years behind bars for murder could be granted parole.
The N.C. Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission is investigating the potential release of William Gray, 43.
Gray was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison in July of 1993.
According to online court documents, in November of 1992, Gray shot Reginald Anderson in the chest after the two got into an argument at a park in Fair Bluff.
Anderson died at the Columbus County Hospital.
Gray turned himself in about an hour and a half after the shooting.
Under the state’s current sentencing law, parole is eliminated for crimes committed after October 1, 1994.
As Gray was sentenced under previous guidelines, he can be considered for parole.
