Man found dead with gunshot wound to head

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating after they said a man died in a shooting overnight.

Dispatchers said the call came in at about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.

A WPD spokeswoman said reports show a female heard a gunshot in an apartment next to her. When officers arrived, the spokeswoman said they found a 19-year-old dead with a gunshot wound to his head.

The spokeswoman said it appears to be an accidental shooting. Police are working to notify the victim’s family before his name is released.
