Man facing felony charges in Lea Island fight


PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A nice day out on the water and enjoying the beaches in the Cape Fear ended with a man seriously injured. Now, deputies said another man is facing charges.

Deputies said they had several reports of a fight on Lea Island, between Topsail Island and Figure Eight Island, on Sunday afternoon. They said the fight started when a man asked a group of people playing rugby to move their game further away from a group of small children. Deputies said that today one of the persons playing rugby, Vincent Cole Rector, 33, turned himself in to the Pender County Sheriff’s Office.

Rector is facing charges including felony assault inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct. He was booked under a $16,000 bond. Deputies said the investigation is ongoing.
