Man falls to death at North Carolina waterfall

LAKE TOXAWAY, NC (AP) — A man has fallen to his death at a waterfall in western North Carolina.

Lt. Terry Crow with Lake Toxaway Fire Rescue told local media that the man fell Tuesday evening as he tried to reach a friend who had fallen to a ledge below the top Raven Rock Falls.

Crow says the first man had fallen about a quarter way down the falls to a ledge and the second person fell all the way down when he tried to reach the first person.

Authorities estimate the top of the waterfall to be 150 feet from the ground.

The men’s names have not been released.

The person who fell to the ledge was flown to the Greenville, South Carolina, Memorial Hospital and was in critical condition.
