Man pleads guilty in Family Dollar armed robbery

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Louisiana man will spend the next several years in prison following a guilty plea.

Jean Paul Perez, 35, pleaded guilty in a New Hanover County courtroom on Monday to the armed robbery at a Family Dollar store from 2014. In July of that year, Perez took money from a cash register at the store on Market Street and pulled out a handgun on employees when they tried to run after him.

Perez was arrested in Louisiana and extradited back to NC to face the charges. He will serve between five and seven years in prison.
