Man pleads guilty in killing of friend during gang shooting


WILMINGTON, NC (StarNewsOnline) — The final defendant and oldest of three people charged in a 2014 friendly fire shooting death pleaded guilty Monday in New Hanover County Superior Court.

Adron Whitted, 23, entered a guilty plea to voluntary manslaughter, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling and conspiracy to discharge a firearm into an occupied dwelling in the Jan. 19, 2014, killing of Raequan Rouse, 18.

In exchange for the plea, charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder were dismissed. Judge John Nobles sentenced Whitted to eight to just over 11 years in prison.
