Man pleads guilty in wife’s attempted murder


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County man is spending at least ten years in prison following a guilty plea in a brutal attack.

Robert Burton Walker pleaded guilty to attempted first degree murder and was sentenced to between 10 and 14 years in prison.

Walker attacked his wife on August 22, 2015 with a hammer. After the attack, he called 911 from their North Front Street apartment. His wife suffered fractures to both of her hands, one leg and her face. Prosecutors said she was bleeding profusely from the head when they arrived and was in the hospital for a month.

In court, the victim testified that she had to quit her job at a hair salon due to the injuries on her hand. The pair were married three months prior to the attack.
