Man pleads guilty to child sex crimes, gets probation
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – A Wilmington man pleaded guilty in court this morning just before jury selection was set to begin in his child molestation trial.
Nathanial Malpass, 39, was arrested for these crimes in 2014.
According to the New Hanover County District Attorney’s office, Malpass, 39, pleaded guilty today to 2 counts of indecent liberties with a child. He met the 4-year-old and 10-year-old victims through his wife, Erica Malpass. She was a long-time babysitter for the victims and their family.
Judge Jay Hockenbury sentenced Malpass to 5 years probation. Malpass also received two suspended sentences for a total of 34-60 months.
Malpass was ordered to have no contact with the victims, cannot live with any minor child during his probation and will have to register as a sex offender for 30 years.
