Man sentenced in Christmas Day 2012 shooting death


COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The twin brother of a man sentenced in a deadly shooting is joining his sibling in prison.

Prosecutors said Lapolean Ricky Cooper, 35, pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and second degree kidnapping for his role in the Christmas 2012 death of Gilberto Antonio Segovia, 51. Lapolean was sentenced to between 18 and 24 years behind bars.

Cooper’s twin brother, Napoleon Cooper, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in January for murder.
