Man wanted in Indiana caught in Bladen County

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A man wanted in the Midwest is in a North Carolina jail tonight after being caught in Bladen County.

Bladen County Sheriff’s deputies say they arrested Steven Douglas Newgent at his home on Culbreth Smith Road in Ammon. Investigators in Sampson County had been looking for Newgent for several weeks to face felony charges of breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Detectives say Newgent is also a fugitive from Indiana, where he’s wanted for assault on a government official.

“Felons need to know we will keep looking for them till we locate them and bring them before the courts to answer the charges against them,” Sheriff Jim McVicker said in a statement.

Newgent was initially booked into the Bladen County Jail under a $100,000 bond. He is now in the Sampson County Jail awaiting extradition to Indiana.
