Man who fled police with 3-year-old in car sentenced

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man was sentenced today following a guilty plea in an incident that involved him trying to elude police with his 3-year-old child in the car.

Ricky Wallace Jr., 22, pleaded guilty to charges including possession of a firearm by a felon, speeding to elude arrest and child abuse. Wallace was sentenced to between eight and ten years behind bars.

On August 7, officers from the Wilmington Police Department attempted to serve a warrant on Wallace for his alleged participation in an armed robbery that occurred on July 16. When officers approached the defendant, he drove his car recklessly, crashing into a dumpster.

Wallace’s three-year-old child was in the front seat of the car at the time but was not harmed. After searching the car, officers found a loaded .45 caliber handgun under the front seat of the vehicle.
