Man with ‘expired’ life sentence won’t get parole
RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — A convicted killer, scheduled to be paroled, will not be released. Alford Jones is serving his time at New Hanover Correctional Facility. He was scheduled to be paroled next month.
This week, the state Parole Commission determined Jones was not complying with conditions of a program he needed to complete to get out. His next review for parole consideration is scheduled for may 2013.
Jones was sentenced to a life term in the 1970s, but lawyers argued under the definition of a life term he served his sentence. A state appeals court ruled that Jones should be released.
