Man accused of drunk driving after motorcyclist dies

A Burlington man has died, after a motorcycle accident here in Wilmington on Sunday.

Stanley Barnes was riding his bike on Market Street around 8:00 last night, when a SUV turned into his path.

The driver of the SUV left the scene.

Barnes was taken to the hospital, where he died today.

The driver of the SUV eventually turned himself in. Thirty-two year old Jason Smith of Southport was charged with DWI, hit and run, and felony death by motor vehicle.

He’s since been released on bond.
