Man detained by NC police dies after taking drugs

CHARLOTTE — A man who swallowed drugs when police in North Carolina served a search warrant on him has died several hours after leaving hospital.

The Charlotte Observer reports that Charlotte-Mecklenburg police searched the room at a hotel about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. When the officers entered the room a man told them he had swallowed drugs.

The man was detained but not arrested. Paramedics took him to a hospital, but he left before being treated. Several hours later a man flagged down an officer. Police said the man was vomiting small baggies.

Police say the man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officers didn’t disclose what was in the baggies or the man’s name.
