Man found guilty of killing wife
LUMBERTON, N.C. — A North Carolina man being tried for a second time on charges of killing his wife has been found guilty.
The Fayetteville Observer reported that at Robeson County jury deliberated about five hours over two days before reaching a verdict Tuesday afternoon in the trial of Myron Britt.
Britt was found guilty of killing Nancy Britt, a Wake County teacher, at her sister’s home in Lumberton in August 2003. A trial in 2006 ended in a hung jury when one juror refused to take part in deliberations.
Prosecutors say Britt killed his wife to collect more than $800,000 in insurance. The sentencing phase of the trial was scheduled to begin Wednesday.
Prosecutors are seeking a death sentence. The defense is expected to present evidence to try to convince the jury to sentence Britt to life in prison.
