Man sentenced to 40 years for rape, kidnapping

WILMINGTON — A man accused of kidnapping and raping five women in New Hanover and Wake Counties has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Omar Sharpe plead guilty to all nine charges he faced in New Hanover County, including first-degree rape and kidnapping.

The charges stem from a June crime spree.

Sharpe pleaded guilty to raping three other women in Wake County December 31.

He was given at least 40 years in each county, the sentences will run simultaneously.
