Manufacturers must recycle NC computers and TVs

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – North Carolina lawmakers have sent Gov. Beverly Perdue a bill to give computer and television companies more options to recycle their products.

The bill sent to the governor’s office replace the state’s existing electronic waste law.

The new bill allows computer manufacturers to choose among several types of recycling plans. Companies can chose if they want to handle the bulk of recycling the products or pay higher fees for local governments to handle the recycling effort.

The bill also delays the start of the statewide disposal ban of televisions and computers until July of next year.
