Marine injured after Surf City shark bite
SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — A Camp Lejeune spokesman said a Marine was treated and released from the Naval Hospital following an incident with a shark.
Spokesman Nat Fahy said the incident happened Saturday night when a 32-year-old man was admitted before 10:41 p.m. He was released at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Pender County Emergency Management and Surf City Police say they received no calls of shark bites in the area, so the location of the incident is unknown.
Fahy said the Marine suffered injuries to his right hand and forearm and was transported to the hospital by a friend.
This is the 8th incident involving sharks on the North Carolina coast this year, and the 2nd incident in Surf City. A child suffered injuries from an apparent shark bite on June 24.
