Martin Luther King Jr. parade a big hit
Hundreds of people lined the streets in downtown Wilmington to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. day.
The streets were packed Monday, and people of all ages were out showing their support in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.
Bridgit Kreutzer of Wilmington said, “We came out today and see the parade; obviously it’s an important day in our community and to our country and we just want to come out and celebrate.”
People cheered as the floats, bands and elected officials went by, but the biggest celebration was for the future leader of our country, and how Dr. King paved the way.
Acquinetta Beatty said, “The dream, oh man it really is awesome and not only because of what Martin Luther King did, but because of what many people did; African-American, Caucasian, Latino, it’s just about everybody coming together.”
So while the drums, the floats and marching are fun, this parade had special significance for those who came out to celebrate.
Nicholas Faherty added, “I think that we keep showing that humanity is able to overcome a lot of hard differences that we’ve had.”
The MLK Day Parade is a tradition that’s been going on for years, and seems to grow bigger and bigger each and every year.
