Mary C. Williams Soccer Team receives trophies for win in PISA

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) –It was a Cinderella story of a brand new team climbing to the top of the Pleasure Island Soccer Association Tournament.

Today, those kids at Mary C. Williams got their trophies. This comes after their triumphant win over their opponents, Off Leash K9. Many of the kids say they are happy with the trophies but that was never their goal. They just wanted to work together as a team.

“I don’t really think we were working for trophies. We were just playing for fun. It felt really great because, like I said, the first time we ever played as a team in a real league. It’s all about success and how good we play,” striker Christian Angon Garcia said.

The team wants to say thank you to everyone who supported them. The coach is taking them out for lunch to watch Liverpool vs Real Madrid as a another part of the celebration.
