Mason brings Christmas to families in need
SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — For two years Mason Marshall has been using the profits from his gourmet popcorn business to help spread Christmas cheer.
“Mom gave me fifty bucks and said if it runs out it runs out but you have to do something good with that money and I started my own popcorn business. And mom said do you know anything about gourmet popcorn? And I said no, but I do know one thing, there isn’t anything from Holden Beach to Wilmington for a popcorn store,” said Mason.
But Mason’s Market is more than just a small business, it’s giving back in a big way. This Mason is giving away 60 complete sets of presents for kids on Christmas Day and those bundles include toys, food, and of course a stocking filled with candy.
“On the side of the bridge, that side with all the beaches, there’s a lot of money there and you can get jobs really easily over there. But on this side of the bridge where there’s like Food Lion and Walgreens and stuff it doesn’t have that much money. And it was even hard for my mom to find a job,” Mason said.
Through an application process, Mason is taking care of Christmas. He starts shopping in the summer time to make sure he is prepared.
“My most fun part is trying to figure out all the toys that we need,” said Mason.
And he’s hoping to help even more families next Christmas.
