McCrory ties to Duke Energy subject of NC TV ad

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – A North Carolina political organization is running a new television commercial again trying to raise conflict-of-interest questions about Republican gubernatorial nominee Pat McCrory while Charlotte’s mayor.

N.C. Citizens for Progress said Friday it’s spending $309,000 on an ad that will run for 10 days. The group has benefited from donations by the Democratic Governors Association to run other commercials over the past two weeks.

The latest ad argues McCrory has been coy about his work at Duke Energy before leaving the utility as he first ran for governor in 2008. The ad says he once testified as mayor before a congressional panel about a clean air regulation that would affect Duke.

McCrory’s campaign calls the ad “false and negative” and says McCrory has never been involved in unethical behavior.
