McIntyre says proposed redistricting is disappointing

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Rep. Mike McIntyre was in Brunswick County Tuesday afternoon to present a federal check to Brunswick EMC. We caught up with him to get his reaction to the state’s proposed map for congressional redistricting.

The legislature’s plan would change the 7th District, which serves southeastern North Carolina. The new map cuts Robeson County in half and adds Onslow and Carteret counties to the district, currently served by McIntyre.

McIntyre says he does not agree with the new proposed map.

“It’s clearly a brazen and blatant over attempt to under cut the very support in my own home town and my very neighborhood,” McIntyre said. “It’s disappointing that they would do this very same thing to other rural counties.”

McIntyre will return to Washington Wednesday and says he is against raising the debt ceiling and will vote against an increase.
