Media coverage at Wrightsville Beach

Today there were a lot of curious onlookers at Wrightsville Beach. Those were not the only folks heading toward the beach, instead of away from it during the storm.

WWAY has an interesting look at the attention Wrightsville Beach is getting from national and regional media.

Everywhere you looked, there they were. There were satellite trucks and more satellite trucks. It was kind of hard not to notice all the news vehicles Friday evening at Wrightsville Beach.

Most of them took up two parking spaces. They certainly caught the attention of Wrightsville Beach resident John Overton.

“All the media attention is kind of nice for Wrightsville Beach. At the same time, this is not a very big storm for us so to speak, but it’s exciting,” said Overton.

Exciting may be an understatement because everywhere you looked, there they were – reporters, cameramen and more reporters. All going live with reports that will be seen around the nation.

Jason Handman, a reporter from Accuweather said, “We flew into Charleston, they sent us there. We’ve been tracking this storm all along, then they said you need to more north. So we ended up in Wilmington and drove here to Wrightsville Beach and this seems to be the place to be with all of our colleagues here.”

On this evening, Wrightsville Beach appeared to be the center of attention. We are not sure if that is a good thing. After all, all of these media types are here for one thing – storm reporting.
