Meeting to discuss Kure Beach rental properties

KURE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Many people love to rent beach homes in the warmer months, but the Town of Kure Beach may be making changes to that process.

On March 4, the town will be holding an open forum meeting for folks to discus potential changes to how rental properties are handled in the area. Included in the proposal are restrictions to the number of people allowed to spend the night in rental properties, as well as changes to parking procedures and potentially even a rental application that will need to be filed through the town.

Mayor Dean Lambeth said the planning and zoning board called the meeting so anyone could share their thoughts on the proposals. He says parking is the biggest issue.

“It’s all on the table,” Lambeth said. “And we want everybody to know that we gave them the task of looking into it so, I don’t foresee any big problems with it.”

Realtor Jim Ring says during the peak season, the large influx of cars takes its toll on full-time residents.

“The biggest problem comes where these larger homes, where they’re putting 20-something people in a house. Of course now, it seems like when people come to the beach everybody wants to bring their own car.”

Ring said the part about a rental application, however, is possibly taking it too far.

“A lot of people don’t like Big Brother looking over everything they’re doing,” Ring said.

The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at Kure Beach Town Hall.
