Memorial services this weekend for firefighter who died during training

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two memorial services are planned this weekend for a New Hanover County firefighter who died during training this week.

New Hanover County Fire Rescue Capt. David Heath, 48, died from an apparent heart attack while participating in a training exercise at the Safety Training Center at Cape Fear Community College’s North Campus Monday. Heath was a 10-year veteran of the department.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Port City Community Church at 250 Vision Drive in Wilmington. Following the service, firefighters will lead a procession as Capt. Heath’s body is taken to Concord by way of Raleigh.

A second service will be in held Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Assembly in Concord.
