Men sentenced in Brunswick Co. armed home invasion, robbery
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Two of the three men charged with a 2017 home invasion pleaded guilty in Brunswick County court Monday.
The incident happened on January 22, 2017 on Old Ferry Road in Supply.
The three men, Jonathan Velez, Joshua Albarran, and Miguel Cortes were each charged with First Degree Burglary, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, and other offenses in connection with the home invasion.
According to a news release by Brunswick and Columbus counties district attorney offices, Velez, Albarran, Cortes, and another unknown man drove to and broke into the Supply home of Herman and Erika Faircloth.
Cortes, the driver, and Albarran remained outside the home as Velez and the unknown man climbed onto a balcony and broke a window to get inside the house. Velez, armed with a shotgun, held the Faircloths at gunpoint, demanded money and eventually left with a lockbox containing papers and a small collection of foreign coins.
Velez was sentenced to at least 7 years in prison and Cortes was sentenced to at least 5 years.
Albarran pleaded on March 7 and received an active sentence of nearly 9 years.
