Men’s health fair

New Hanover County men, with little to no insurance, were able to take advantage of free health screenings Saturday.

Nurses were on hand at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in downtown Wilmington to provide care.

The screenings included blood tests for glucose and cholesterol, blood pressure checks and body mass index, HIV testing and counseling.

The patients noted heath screenings are important for everyone. “You start going to the doctor to learn the symptoms, then you’ll know what to do. You could have a long healthy life. I’m going to be here a long time,” said George Junious of Wilmington.

The event was sponsored by the New Hanover County Health Department and the New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
