Menorah lit in Downtown Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The menorah is lit in Downtown Wilmington. Hanukkah officially kicked off at sundown Tuesday.
Dozens were on hand to celebrate the lighting of the first candle of the menorah to symbolize the first day of the holiday.
Mayor Bill Saffo says just having the menorah in Downtown Wilmington is a symbol of the Port City’s growing diversity.
“It is great to be able to celebrate all of those different cultures in our community. This is what this community is about and this is what America is about and it is a great time of the year,” said Mayor Bill Saffo.
Hanukkah continues until December 24th.
