Mike Causey running for Coble’s NC Congress seat
GREENSBORO, NC (AP) — A four-time candidate for North Carolina insurance commissioner now plans to run for the 6th Congressional District seat that opens at the end of 2014 when Rep. Howard Coble retires.
Mike Causey of Greensboro announced his bid for the Republican nomination Monday. He joins at least seven other people who want to succeed Coble, who said in November that his 15th term will be his last.
Causey now works at the state Department of Transportation and also is a retired insurance executive. He says he will separate himself from the large May GOP primary field by focusing on cutting government spending, creating jobs and supporting the military.
Causey won the Republican nomination for insurance commissioner in 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2012 but failed to win in the general election.
