MLK lane closures start Monday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The NCDOT will be intermittently closing the N. 23 Street entrance ramp to Martin Luther King Parkway next week.

According to a release, the ramp will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, April 25 through Friday, April 29. The closure is so crews can replace expansion joints.

Expansion joins allow for the expansion and contraction of the bridge that normally occur during extremes in temperatures. Old or outdated joints can leak, fail, cause excessive wear to the underside of the underside of the bridge.

Officials say there won’t be any detours, but drivers should be cautious and expect delays in the area. Drivers should remain alert and follow the speed limit.
