Mobile theater makes its last stop

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A mobile theater traveling by horse is making its last tour stop, in Wilmington tonight.

The Rural Academy Theater is a unique traveling theater that aims to bring entertainment to rural areas across the state. The annual horse-drawn tour brings performers together to create shows in response to the growing urbanization of our culture, food, education and art.

The majority of the shows are performed outdoors using the wagon as the stage.

Brothers Gabe and Noah Harrell, who founded the theater, hope the performance will encourage people to become more in-tune with nature.

“We spend most of our days inside and it’s sort of exploring how our lives are still beating to this seasonal, collective pulse,” said Gabe Harrell.

The brothers say the best part about their traveling is the opportunity to engage with the locals in the communities they visit.

Tonight they will present the last show of the tour inside Cameron Art Museum at 7:00 p.m. For more information about the group and ticket prices click here.
