Mom charged with filing fake child abduction report
NAVASSA, NC (WWAY) — Investigators charged a Brunswick County mother with filing a false report about her kid.
Navassa Police say a family feud led to the false claim of child abduction. They say Deborah Sparkman 18, filed child abduction charges against her mother and stepfather Wednesday. Both were supposed to make their first appearances this morning, but the charges were dropped. Police say Sparkman told them her parents took her four-year-old.
Police say in reality, Sparkman lost her child at a mall in Fayetteville and the four-year-old ended up at her parents house. They didn’t say how the child got to the grandparents’ home. The child was at the home for four days.
Police say that’s when Sparkman filed the abduction charges.
