Mom involved in River Rd. deadly crash released from hospital

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The woman who was involved in a fiery deadly crash on River Road has been released from the hospital at UNC-Chapel Hill.

According to a UNC Health Care spokesman, Melissa Henderson was released after suffering injuries in that crash that happened last month. Henderson’s two children were in the vehicle; her 13-month-old son died, while her daughter survived. Search warrants said Henderson had drugs in her system at the time of the crash.

According to additional search warrants filed last Wednesday, additional items were found inside Henderson’s SUV: silver spoon head, multiple Gillette razor blades, melted plastic bottle with lid and a metal case containing seven tablets with the marking “S 90 3,” an anti-anxiety medication.

There’s no word on whether charges have been filed against the mother. We are awaiting word from District Attorney Ben David.
