Money for dredging headed to local waterways
Nearly four million federal dredging dollars are headed for our waterways.
Congressman Mike McIntyre said that $3.5 million will go for work in Wilmington harbor; $200,000 each for Lockwoods Folly Inlet and New Topsail Inlet. Earlier this week the Congressman told us why these projects are so important.
“We really had some tough times in the recent administrations; the end of the Clinton administration, as well as the Bush administration, on getting money for dredging. Well the dredging has not only to do with commercial traffic and recreational traffic, but it has to do with public safety and with the Coast Guard, emergency preparedness, Homeland Security. You know, we’ve had to fight that battle, but it’s worth the fight, and thankfully we’ve gotten the money that nobody thought we could get for that.”
We will hear more from our interview with Congressman McIntyre in the coming days.
