Monkey Junction vote delayed
Tuesday night’s Wilmington City Council agenda is one item shorter than originally expected. The vote that would be the first step in annexing Monkey Junction has been postponed.
The proposed annexation would include an agreement between the city and the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority. Now, the authority’s finance committee wants to clarify part of the draft agreement.
A slated future project is extending a waterline in the Monkey Junction area. Like many organizations, the authority is feeling the economic crunch and may have to hold off on the project.
Before moving forward, authority officials want to make sure they can still reach an agreement with the city if the project is delayed.
For now, the annexation vote is tentatively scheduled for the February second meeting.
There will still be plenty to talk about Tuesday night, namely selecting the newest council member. It is now down to three candidates; Margaret Haynes, Mark Saulnier, and Deb Quaranta.
