Moore taking on Perdue over 1987 vote
RALEIGH (AP) — State Treasurer Richard Moore has released an ad questioning a vote that his opponent in the Democratic governor’s race made 21 years ago on a civil rights bill.
Moore released the ad Thursday that questions Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue’s trustworthiness because she voted “no” on a bill to give state authorities more leeway to investigate organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan. She was a member of the state House during the
1987 vote.
Perdue called the ad “race-baiting” and released a letter from black leaders praising her for a long history of working to improve civil rights.
The two candidates are competing for the Democratic nomination May 6.
