PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The NC Highway Patrol is asking for your help finding the driver involved in a deadly hit and run that happened in Pender County over the weekend.

According to the NCHP report, troopers responded to reports of someone lying beside the roadway on US 421 at Black River Club Road, not far from the Canetuck community, around 12:30am Saturday morning.

Troopers found a moped and its rider in the area. The operator of the moped, 44-year-old Joey White of Turkey, died at the scene.

After further investigation, the NCHP determined the moped was traveling south on US 421 and a second vehicle failed to reduce speed, colliding with the back of the moped.  The at-fault vehicle did not remain at the scene and continued southbound on US 421.

The NCHP says the suspect vehicle is believed to be a dual tire vehicle, possibly a commercial motor vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact North Carolina Highway Patrol at (910) 296-1311 or *HP(47).
