More murder tips during newly-released 911 calls

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Another 911 call reveals another tip about a murder in New Hanover County over the weekend.

Adam Morton, and his girlfriend Jamie Cooper, 34, both face charges in William Elliott’s murder. Before Elliott’s body was discovered in a home Sunday, Cooper said Morton choked her at the Quality Inn on Market Street late Saturday night. Shortly after the assault, two people claiming to be her brother, and her mother called 911.

You heard from the brother Monday. Then, Tuesday, more 911 calls were released. They include a call from a woman identifying herself as Cooper’s mother.

She sounds very concerned about her daughter. She asks the 911 operator to stay on the line with her as police respond to the scene.

“I’ve been on the phone with her for a half an hour trying to get it out of her what’s going on,” the caller said. “The boyfriend that she’s with … I don’t know, somebody got murdered. I couldn’t get it out of her.”

During another call, a man identifying himself as Cooper’s brother said something similar.
“My sister said he robbed him and he stabbed him,” the caller said to the dispatcher. “He murdered him at their house.”
New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer said Wilmington Police asked the deputies to check out the house after receiving those tips. Deputies said Elliot’s body was found inside a home on the 100 block of Gale Road. Elliott suffered multiple stab wounds. Deputies said the victim, along with the suspects, were all acquaintances and were partying together Friday night.

Morton faces first degree murder charges. He’s still in jail under no bond. Cooper is charged with accessory after the fact and is being held in the New Hanover County jail under a $250,000 bond.
